Expo push notification in managed vs bare workflow

I implemented expo-push-notifications in my managed workflow and in bare workflow(android) successfully. But I couldn’t understand one thing -
WHY IN BARE WORKFLOW WE NEED TO ADD FIREBASE SDK TO IMPLEMENT EXPO-PUSH-NOTIFICATIONS WHILE IN MANAGED WORKFLOW WE DON’T NEED?
